thunder and whisper
“I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and all your wonderful miracles. Your awe inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness.”
“They will talk together about the glory of your kingdom; they will celebrate examples of your power.”
Psalm 145:5-6, 11
My Abba,
Each day from the time the first fingers of daylight tease the sleepy morning horizon until the moon rests her heavy head in the soft lap of night, your glorious splendor is on display.
Thank you for teaching me to see and celebrate examples of your power. I want to meditate on the wildly delightful things you do – your awe-inspiring ways. I want to see you today for who you are, and live wide awake – contemplating your perfection.
I love that the word “contemplate” comes from the Latin word “a place for observation.” Please help me to enjoy my place for observation with you, as you call to my mind all the extraordinary ways you are working.
Don’t let mundane tasks distract me from the mind-blowing epic of your love and grace. The endless demand of dirty dishes, laundry that seems to reproduce in the utility room, and the menacing pile of paperwork on my desk can steal my attention.
I realize though, even, these everyday duties can have eternal value and become an act of celebration, when I invite you to empower me as I do them. When I am doing what you want me to do, dependent on you and your resources, I experience the joy of participating with you, no matter how mundane the activity.
Thank you for reminding me of this truth today. You are an exhilarating companion, whether we dance on breathtaking peaks, in treacherous valleys, or on the broad plains of routine days.
I love you,
Mollie
My child,
I am glad you want to recognize my miracles in your midst. You can find me at work in the robust and the delicate. The grandest galaxy and smallest atom. The thunder and the whisper.
Many people think the healing of physical disease is the most dramatic evidence of my power. Physical healing is wonderful, but it is only temporary intervention. Everyone’s physical body will cease to function at some point.
My glory is shown most powerfully when I transform hearts and souls forever. And when I do, each renewed life becomes a display of my splendor. A sign and symbol of my grace for eternity.
I want you to celebrate these transformative miracles with others. Don’t get swept up in your next desire without taking time to rejoice in what I have done.
Today, I want you to focus with gratitude on the miracles I have already accomplished in your midst. Think of your family a few years ago. Celebrate the restoration. I am not finished yet, but I don’t want you to lose sight of what I have done, as you hunger for more.
Live in celebration today. Keep the flame of my praise kindled as a fragrant offering from a grateful soul!
I love you,
Abba
