be amazed
"I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord." Psalm 40:1-3
My child,
I understand why you can become impatient for the rescue. When distress relentlessly swarms your soul, despair will attempt to ride its coattails. It rummages around looking for a way to dim your enthusiasm for my plans and me. In that pit, minutes can seem like days.
Remember though, you are never alone. Your time-bound body and mind may feel overwhelmed. But nothing overwhelms me.
My plans are eternal and not tied to the clock you keep. Even when you feel time painfully dragging along over the shrapnel of your circumstances, I am there waiting with you. My timing is flawless.
Sometimes you try to force an outcome apart from me, because you grow weary of waiting. But in those moments, the faster you pedal, the steeper the hill will feel.
I hear your cry and when the time is right, I will lift you out of the mire. My ultimate rescue may not come until you see me face to face. But it will be worth the wait.
Even if you feel trapped at an agonizing way station, I can place my supernatural song in your heart. It will transform you. Others will be amazed by my glorious work and put their trust in me.
I love you,
Abba
My Abba,
I realize I do not unfailingly follow your lead. When I get off tempo, I feel confused. The distance between us makes me ache. I don't hear your song because the beat of my drum is deafening.
Sometimes, I don't wait well. I waste precious time and energy on futile plans and schemes. I am crying out for you to intervene.
Please keep me focused on what is important to your heart. I don't want to dance in circles. Lift me out of the mud so that I can see you and your eternal plans more clearly.
Let me sense your intervention and your presence. Steady me as I walk along. That image means more to me now because I sometimes need others to help me keep my physical balance when I walk. When I am weak, I know how much better I move with someone’s help.
Please remind me of my slow, unsteady gait when I want to move forward in life without your support. Maybe that tangible image will motivate me to reach out for your strong arm.
I want my dependence on you to draw others to lean on you, too. Continue to make me (and those around me) acutely aware of our desperate need for you.
Please invigorate my heart with your song today, so that I wait patiently on you. Amaze us, my God!
I love you,
Mollie
