My Abba,

I am so grateful for your rescue! Thank you for setting this captive free. Today I want to celebrate the freedom you have given me. You released me from the tyranny of my captor, and gave me a life I could have never envisioned.

 My adventure with you has not prevented heartbreak, blisters and scars. But I would not trade my journey with you, for any other without you.

Cause me to increasingly treasure my liberty. When I lose sight of what you have done for me, I can overlook the beauty of your dazzling rescue. Sometimes my former captor still tries to whisper subtle lies about the luxuries he could offer inside his gilded cage. I am grateful that you dispel his dark strategies with your light.

Thank you for giving me the freedom to obey your laws. I don't want to worship your rules. But please give me everything I need to see my obedience as an act of worship – a way to say thank you for what you have done for me.

I know I will never be made right in your sight by obedience to my best-dressed holy scheme. That two-ton, self-righteous albatross would take me under.

I don't want to live life gasping for my next virtuous breath, trying to be good enough to make the cut. I want to be that child who rests peacefully on the surface of life's waters, kept afloat by the perfect buoyancy of your grace.

Through the power of your Holy Spirit, I want to become more like you. Not because I have to, in order to be yours. But because I want to, since I am yours.

You don't have to live like your life with me depends on your flawless service record. That is not reality. But you won't want to miss out on the life I have for you.

Don't let our enemy sell you on the delusion that my plans for you will compromise your best life. He is only interested in your death.

I did not craft spiteful commandments to make my children miserable and then open the hatch of heaven to pour them on your heads, burying you in the rubble of legalism. You are mine, so you are free! You are free to enjoy me, walk with me, and glorify me forever.  

Now, you can choose to obey my love laws because of your love and gratitude for me. Out of my love for you, I gave them to you. Out of your love for me, I want you to live by them.

My ways are life giving, not joy snatching. Even when my methods seem upside-down to you, trust me. As you walk within the boundaries of my principles, you will find all the freedom you are looking for.
